PHASE ONE: SITE PROTECTION
Until an athlete has extension restored and the absence of swelling, an ACL rehab will always beheld back. The focus of the protection phase is to restore the lost ROM as a result of the surgery and inflamation, while restoring normal gait and walking mechanics.
PHASE TWO: LOAD INTRODUCTION
Once you have restored your ability to extend and you have a quiet knee, it’s key to introduce load as early as you can with structured strength training. The sooner your knee can tolerate loading, the sooner it can be exposed to more dynamics activities like hopping and running. This phase also re-introduces activities like landing and jumping back into your movement routine.
PHASE Three: strength accumulation
With your knee tolerating load, two big milestones need to be achieved: the ability to run, and, symmetry of leg strength. During this phase, you’ll accumulate strength so that you can close the gap between strength and capacity, while re-introducing running back into your training routine.
PHASE FOUR: TRAINING INTEGRATION
The fourth phase of our ACL rehab program gets prepared to return to training – and by now, you’ll be ready. We’ll begin simulating sport-specific demands and exposing you to opportunities to respond to the chaotic demands of sport in a graduated and progressive way. This is also where we dial in your mental skills so you can return to training and competition with confidence in your regained strength and ability.
PHASE Five: return to performance
In your final phase of your ACL rehab, you’ll ensure that the strength, power, speed and coordination you need to return to sport with confidence is achieved, and you’ll go through our landmark return to performance testing to give you the confidence you’ve left no stone unturned. During this phase, you’ll be spending time in the gym and out on the pitch or court with your team, dotting the i’s and crossing the t’s in your preparation to return to competition.
Groin tears are particularly difficult for athletes to recover from due to the complex anatomy and high mechanical demands of the groin region, which plays a critical role in movements like acceleration, deceleration, cutting, and kicking. The interconnected network of muscles, tendons, and ligaments can lead to persistent pain, chronic weakness, or muscle imbalances even after apparent recovery. Inadequate rehabilitation, scar tissue formation, and reduced neuromuscular control further hinder a full return to performance. Additionally, fear of re-injury often limits an athlete’s confidence in performing high-risk maneuvers, while the risk of re-injury remains high if underlying issues aren’t fully resolved. These factors, combined with the groin’s essential role in sport-specific movements, make returning to pre-injury form a challenging and multifaceted process.
Groin injuries are common in change-of-direction sports due to the unique demands these movements place on the adductor muscles and the groin region. During rapid changes in direction, the adductor muscles must generate high levels of force to stabilize the hip and control lateral movement. These muscles often become overloaded, especially during deceleration or when pushing off to pivot or cut sharply.Additionally, change-of-direction movements frequently involve asymmetrical loading and high-speed eccentric contractions, which increase the risk of strain or tearing in the groin muscles. Poor biomechanics, fatigue, and insufficient strength or flexibility in the adductors can further elevate the risk, as the groin area may be unable to handle the repetitive, high-intensity demands. Combined with the multidirectional nature of sports like soccer, basketball, or rugby, these factors make groin injuries a common occurrence.
Rehabilitation for groin injuries, whether post-surgery or due to overuse, involves a structured, evidence-based approach to restore strength, mobility, and function. Initial stages focus on rest, pain management, and gentle isometric exercises to reduce pain and rebuild strength. As recovery progresses, isotonic and eccentric exercises are introduced, alongside stretches to restore flexibility and mobility in the adductors, hip flexors, and hamstrings. Strengthening the adductors, glutes, core, and pelvic stabilizers is crucial, with exercises like Copenhagen planks and single-leg bridges playing a key role. Neuromuscular training, including balance and proprioceptive exercises, helps improve control and reduce re-injury risk. Gradual reintroduction of sport-specific movements, such as sprinting and cutting, ensures readiness for return to play while addressing any compensatory patterns. Monitoring progress with strength tests and range-of-motion assessments, combined with psychological support to manage fear of re-injury, ensures a comprehensive recovery process tailored to the athlete’s needs.
The recovery options for a groin tear depend on the severity of the injury and the level of sport you're returning to. For most mild-to-moderate tears, conservative management is the first step, involving rest, physiotherapy, pain management, and a gradual return to activity. Physiotherapy focuses on progressive strengthening, mobility exercises, and sport-specific reconditioning to ensure a safe recovery. For severe tears or cases where conservative treatment fails, surgical intervention may be required. Surgery typically involves reattaching the torn muscle or tendon and addressing any associated issues, followed by a structured rehabilitation program.Adjunct treatments, such as manual therapy, platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections, or shockwave therapy, can support healing in cases of persistent pain or chronic issues. For prevention and long-term management, targeted strength training (e.g., the Copenhagen Adduction Protocol) and flexibility exercises can reduce the risk of future injuries and improve performance. It’s essential to consult a sports medicine professional or physiotherapist to develop a recovery plan tailored to your specific needs and goals.
Yes, many groin tears can heal without surgery, especially mild-to-moderate injuries. Non-surgical treatment typically involves rest, physiotherapy, and a gradual rehabilitation program to restore strength, mobility, and function. Initial steps focus on managing pain and inflammation through rest, ice, and possibly anti-inflammatory medications. Physiotherapy emphasizes progressive strengthening of the groin and surrounding muscles, improving flexibility, and reintroducing functional movements. Most athletes and individuals can recover fully with this approach, though the timeline varies depending on the severity of the tear and adherence to the rehabilitation program. Severe tears or complete ruptures, however, may require surgical intervention if conservative management is unsuccessful or if the injury significantly impacts function. Consulting a healthcare professional is essential to determine the best treatment path.
A groin tear often presents with specific symptoms that can help you identify the injury. Common signs include a sudden, sharp pain in the inner thigh or groin area, typically occurring during activities like sprinting, cutting, or kicking. You may notice swelling, bruising, or tenderness in the affected area, along with difficulty walking or performing movements that involve the adductor muscles (e.g., bringing your legs together). In more severe cases, there could be a visible deformity or a "popping" sensation at the time of injury. If you suspect a groin tear, it’s important to rest and avoid activities that worsen the pain. A healthcare professional, such as a sports physician or physiotherapist, can assess the severity of the injury through physical examination and imaging (e.g., ultrasound or MRI) if needed. Early diagnosis and treatment are crucial for a smooth recovery.
The time it takes for a groin injury to heal and allow for a safe return to sport depends on the severity of the injury and the quality of rehabilitation. Mild groin strains (Grade 1) may heal within 2 to 4 weeks, while moderate strains (Grade 2) typically require 4 to 8 weeks. Severe tears (Grade 3) or injuries requiring surgery can take 3 to 6 months or longer for full recovery.A safe return to sport is not solely based on time but also on functional recovery. Athletes should regain full strength, flexibility, and range of motion in the groin and surrounding muscles. Pain-free sport-specific movements, such as sprinting, cutting, or kicking, are critical benchmarks. Regular monitoring, including strength tests (e.g., adductor squeeze test) and functional assessments by a physiotherapist or sports medicine professional, ensures the injury is fully healed and minimizes the risk of re-injury.

The traditional approach for Achilles rehab revolves around session-to-session care; where you pay for a single consult, get advice, and return at agreed-upon intervals with your practitioner. Typically, the sessional approach does not support you with training and advice outside the consult, meaning you spend more time by yourself. Our approach turns that idea on its head — rather than paying each time you see us, you pay one fixed weekly cost, and you can see us as often as you'd like (some athletes are at our facility 5x per week!). This approach means that you get all the support you need, whenever you need it. This results in great Achilles rehab outcomes for our athletes and better support along the way.
We'll support you for the length of your ACL rehab and even past your return to sport date if you want us too!
Our Achiles rehab program includes everything you need to return to sport with confidence following an achilles injury:
Unlimited physiotherapy support and care

In some cases, we do look after athletes remotely. If you live interstate or can’t make it to the facility, please reach out to us and we’ll assess if we can help. Most of the time, we’ll refer you to a coach we recommend in your city, because nothing beats coaching and accountability in the flesh. However, if you really want to work with us, we can explore that option with you, utilising telehealth, video coaching, and other remote technologies.
We value transparency in pricing. We have a simple price structure -- pay $197 per week, and get everything you need (see our full inclusions above).
Yes. When you prepay for the year, you’ll receive an additional 10% off our advertised weekly price.
We totally understand. Both Karl and Lachlan worked at big commercial gyms and understand how a lot of trust has been lost with gyms and direct debit (DD) memberships. If you don’t feel comfortable setting up a DD with us, prepaying for your Achilles rehab is still an option.
