"Most Athletes Never Get Close To Their Speed Potential."
Most Speed Gurus Train Team-Sport Athletes Like Track and Field Sprinters. It's No Surprise It Rarely Works Out...
There is a huge difference between the training of elite sprinters and team sport athletes.
But most 'speed' coaches train you more like an elite specialist sprinter, forgetting that team sport athletes are generalists -- they have to be good at everything, not just running in a straight line out of the blocks.
That's why most speed training doesn't work for team sport athletes -- it simply doesn't account for all the different physical attributes you need to develop at the same time to become an elite athlete. In fact, the training loads are often poorly managed and speed is trained in a vacuum; so when it gets to the pitch or court, it doesn't transfer to the chaotic world of team sports.
Because of this gap in knowledge, the most ‘glamorous’ speed training is often what gets the attention. Fancy cone drills, quick-feet through agility ladders and technical drills that look good on YouTube are what most athletes spend time doing... even though they won't turn your average acceleration into blistering top end speed.
To develop the gift of speed, you need to understand the proven 3-step formula for speed development that most speed coaches don’t tell you.
The 3 Pillars of Speed Production For The Team Sport Athlete
1. Relative Force Production
The first pillar of speed is the development of relative force. Athletes can't be fast until they're powerful. When an athlete can produce more force per kg of bodyweight, this directly translates to more speed -- it's simple physics. This isn't developed on the field; it's developed in the gym. Powerful athletes are athletes who have the potential to be fast. Weak athletes can never be fast.
2. Acceleration & Top-End Speed Mechanics
There is no denying improving running mechanics can help the team-sport athlete; it's usually the lowest hanging fruit and will reap the biggest reward. The athlete that can optimise their quickness in the first couple of steps will always have the advantage in team sports; the same goes for the athletes that can harness their top end potential with great speed mechanics.
3. Speed Simulation
The third pillar is so obvious that you'd be surprised it's often overlooked when training for speed. If you want to be fast, you have to run, fast. At the end of the day, no drills that improve mechanics or strength training can be optimised unless an athlete actually sprints. It stands to reason that the third pillar is actual speed simulation.
HOW OUR SPEED & AGILITY PROGRAM WORKS
Unlike most speed solutions that train speed in a vacuum, our speed & agility program is seamlessly integrated into our Athlete Development Program (ADP).
The ADP program improves strength and power (pillar one), teaches great running mechanics (pillar two), and provides a great training dosage of real speed training (pillar three). We do this with a combination of in-gym training and training on the pitch where all the hard work comes together while reducing injury risk for the team-sport athlete.
We help athletes of all levels bulletproof their weaknesses, decrease injury risk, and develop the gift of speed. Unlike other programs that start and end on the pitch, we combine everything that an athlete needs to maximise their speed potential. Here is how it works:
Design Your Elite Athlete GamePlan™
When athletes fail to plan, they are planning to fail. But through no fault of their own, most athletes start a gym program without a clear plan, a purpose and achievable targets.
Every athlete who begins working with us starts by designing their own Elite Athlete GamePlan™. This GamePlan™ helps discover the unique pathway that will develop your strength, power, speed and overall athleticism.
Over the course of this performance testing experience, we help our athletes:
- Pinpoint the weaknesses that are holding you back and bulletproof them once and for all.
- Identify the blind spots in your performance and discover how to turn them into opportunities that will enhance your sports performance.
- Reveal the strengths that make you a talented athlete and ID your X-Factor.
By the end of the testing experience, we'll know how to help you get an edge and advantage on your competition.
Develop Your Winning Mindset
Now that we understand your physical performance profile and you have your Elite Athlete GamePlan™ designed, it's time to help you create a winning mindset. Developing mental toughness through Mental Performance Training is the key to performing at your best during the moments it counts the most.
If you want to be able to rise to the occasion when the pressure is on and turn dreams into reality, it’s mental toughness, grit and self-belief that help make that happen. Consider what the great Michael Jordan said:
“The mental part is the hardest part and I think that’s what separates the good players from the great ones.”
Just like MJ, Tiger Woods & Michael Phelps, all the greatest athletes realise that physical preparation is not enough to go from good to great. That's why all our athletes work on their mental preparation, as well as their physical preparation, developing positive routines and rituals, helping them deal with adversity, and improving their self-talk.
By the end of your first mental skills session, you'll be on your way to developing a winning mindset and will be ready to join our performance program.
Once your program has been designed and coordinated into your schedule, you'll be ready to get to work.
We'll Create Your Individualised Program
With the important foundations laid for success, we'll get to work designing your individualised program. This program will take into account your weaknesses, strengths and blind spots and seamlessly fit your training program into your schedule. All your strength and power training, fitness and conditioning, and, sprint/speed sessions will be customised based on what you need to maximise your potential for your sport.
Once your program is designed and coordinated with your schedule, you'll be ready to join our program and get to work.
Start Training & Putting In The Work
With the preparation for training complete, it's now time to get to work and prepare for competition.
You'll join our Athlete Development Program team training sessions (ADP) and join up to 14 other athletes in our small training squads who want the same thing as you -- to succeed in sport.
Under the guidance of our expert coaching and rehab staff, you'll complete your training program at our state-of-the-art facility. Every week, you'll take a small step forward to improving your preparation.
Over time, these gains 'aggregate' to the point where you're stronger, faster, fitter and more athletic.
Events that would otherwise injure you, don't.
Events that would otherwise rattle your confidence, don't.
Events that would normally make you give up, will make you fight harder.
With the right preparation, anything in sport is possible.
